Many footballers who leave the country often lose touch with their roots, but Harambee Stars midfielder Timothy ‘Babu’ Ouma has chosen a different path.
The attacking midfielder, who is currently back home for the holidays, brought early Christmas cheer to the residents of Kawangware.

He organized a community give-back initiative that saw him donate foodstuffs, sports equipment, and shared a meal with hundreds of locals.
Several Harambee Stars players also turned up to support the initiative.
Speaking during the event, Ouma said the drive was about more than donations, insisting it was a chance to reconnect, listen, and inspire.
“This is my way of giving back to the community. Bringing people together, listening to them, and identifying spaces with a lot of talent here in Kawangware, that is what this initiative is about,” he started.
“It’s about giving back to women, children, and the youth, and creating a sense of unity. A lot is happening here. There is food to sustain mothers for a week or two, food for the children, and most importantly, a chance for everyone to come together and be heard,” he continued.
The 21-year-old noted that his bond with Kawangware remains strong, crediting the area for shaping his journey in football and life.
“I give back through sports because this is the community that raised me. I want to show them that there is hope, regardless of where you come from. Not everyone can afford what many consider essential items, such as cooking oil or flour. I know I inspire many, and I take that responsibility seriously,” he added.
Beyond food donations, Ouma also handed out football boots and socks to aspiring young players, a gesture he believes will play a small but meaningful role in helping them chase their dreams.
“I listen to them, we pray together, and we share good moments as a community. I also donated boots and socks, and I believe they will go a long way. If I were able to do it, then they can too. It helps them pursue their dreams,” he said.
Ouma was recently named in the Harambee Stars squad by head coach Benni McCarthy for the November international friendlies against Senegal and Equatorial Guinea. However, he did not feature in either match as Kenya suffered a 1-0 defeat to Equatorial Guinea before a heavy 8-0 loss to Senegal.

At the club level, Ouma’s European journey has had its challenges. He was signed by Czech giants Slavia Prague from Sweden last winter for €2 million but struggled for game time, managing just one first-team appearance and two matches for the reserves.
Following an injury to Radosław Murawski, Polish side Lech Poznań moved to reinforce their midfield and settled on Ouma, who joined the club on loan. The midfielder had previously caught the eye during his time in Sweden, including standout performances for Elfsborg in the Europa League.
Ouma remains under contract with Slavia Prague until June 30, 2029, though his current market value at Lech Poznań makes it unlikely the Czech side will recoup the €2 million they invested.
The 21-year-old, well-known from his scouting days in Sweden and standout performances for Elfsborg in the Europa League, joined the Polish side.
Ouma’s contract with Slavia runs until June 30, 2029, but his market value at Kolejorz is unlikely to rise, leaving little chance for Slavia to recoup the €2 million they invested.
