This comes after the national team failed to win their two AFCON Qualifying ties in November, effectively missing out on the continental tourney

Kenya's Harambee Stars have been overtaken by Tanzania in the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday 28 November.

Kenya has dropped two places, moving from position 106 to 108 while neighbors, Tanzania have moved up six places, rising from position 112 to 106, overtaking Kenya.

This comes after Harambee Stars failed to win their last two matches against Zimbabwe and Namibia respectively.

They also failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, while Tanzania defeated Guinea 1-0 to seal qualification to the continental tournament.

In the month of November, Kenya registered three draws - 1-1 draws with Namibia and South Sudan (CHAN Qualifiers) and a barren stalemate against Zimbabwe that rubber-stamped Kenya's fate of not making their AFCON trip to Morocco next year.

That run, coupled with the disappointing slate of results in September, meant that Kenya, under coach Engin Firat, closed out the year on a dismal run of six matches without a win.

Still leading the African continent is Morrocco, who have dropped to position 14, while Senegal have risen to 17th as the second best African team.

Egypt at position 33, Algeria at 37 and Nigeria 44 are the other top five teams in the region.

Ivory Coast at 46, Cameroon at 49, Mali at 51, Tunisia at 52 and South Africa 57 complete the top 10 positions in the continent.

Uganda top in East Africa

In the East African region, Uganda are still the best ranked team at position 88 followed by Tanzania at 106 and Kenya at 108.

Both Uganda and Tanzania qualified to the 2025 AFCON that will be held in Morocco from Sunday, 21 December 2025 to Sunday, 18 January 2026.

The top 5 teams in the world meanwhile are unchanged, with Argentina still ranked as the World's best team. France, Spain, England and Brazil occupy the other top five spots respectively.

Portugal and Netherlands have moved up to occupy positions six and seven, while Belgium have dropped to the eighth position.

Italy are unmoved at position nine while Germany have climbed up to occupy the last of the top 10 positions.
