Experienced footballer Marcelo Larrondo learned something new about himself - at the worst possible moment

You've probably never heard of Marcelo Larrondo, but that's OK. Despite having a long football career, this 33-year-old Argentinean-born Chilean made the headlines for a surprising reason.

Currently a free agent, having terminated his contract with Chilean club Audax Italiano just 19 days after joining, Larrondo struck a deal with Colombian club Once Caldas and was due to fly to his new football home. But just a few hours before boarding the aeroplane, the strong forward suffered a panic attack for the first time in his life.

The scary experience ruined his day but also the job he's had lined up in Colombia. Once Caldas decided to pull the plug on the deal to sign the experienced player, leaving him unemployed and worried about his mental health.

Larrondo, who had two spells with Argentinean giants River Plate and a brief period playing in Italy with Siena, Fiorentina and Torino, said that his eyes had been opened to the problems many people are experiencing daily.

"I want to thank Once Caldas for their interest. Today I should have travelled to join this great club, but hours before the flight, I suffered a panic attack that prevented me from boarding the plane. It's never happened to me before, and from my humble place, I can say that I feel for all the people who suffer from the condition that's rarely talked about."

We can only hope that Larrondo's well-being will improve soon.
