The Homa Bay and Busia U19 teams have been crowned the inaugural champions of the Talanta Hela Inter-County tournament.
This is after Homa Bay beat Kisumu 4-2 in the boys final staged at the Nyayo National Stadium bringing the tournament that had been running for months to an end.
Busia on the other hand, thrashed Kisumu City 3-1 in a lunchtime kick-off match that was played at the same venue.
The boys' final was the talk of the town as it attracted President William Ruto and the First Lady Rachael Ruto who followed proceedings from the stadium as did Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his spouse Pastor Dorcas Rigathi.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, Principal Secretary Peter Tum, Homabay Governor Gladys Wanga, and Football Kenya Federation President were also in attendance.
“Congratulations Homa Bay County men for beating Kisumu County 4-2. Well in Busia County for emerging winners in the ladies’ competition after defeating Kisumu County 2-1,” wrote the Head of State on his X account.
Homa Bay had beaten Nakuru 5-0 in the semis while Kisumu labored to defeat 4-3 on post-match penalties.
