One of Kenya’s leading gaming firms, Mozzart, has been the official shirt sponsor for Kakamega Homeboyz since December 2020.
The gaming firm's sponsorship has witnessed improved performances at the Kakamega-based club over the years, including winning the 2023 Mozzart Bet Cup.
However, the FKF Premier League title has been elusive despite coming close on a few occasions, including in the annulled 2021/2022 season, where Tusker FC won the crown on goal difference.
Speaking to Mozzart Sport, the former Gor Mahia assistant coach explained the importance of the gaming firm to the club.
“Mozzart has been a big boost to our team in terms of preparations. They have kept us going. Every time we get to the training pitch and in matches, we have to work hard not to disappoint them and our fans,” said Odhiambo.
With the sponsorship, which is in its fifth year, helping the club pay players' salaries as well as handle other operational costs, Odhiambo is now aiming to cap it with the league title at the end of the season.
“Homeboyz have done well over the years but have not won the league, and so our purpose this season is to win the title,” added Odhiambo.
To achieve their season targets, Homeboyz must win matches, and Odhiambo expressed his delight in overcoming Sofapaka, which came courtesy of a third-minute goal by Josephat Lopaga.
“We came with a mission of getting three points and a clean sheet, and I am glad we managed that.”
Odhiambo is in his third stint with Homeboyz, having achieved success with the club previously, including winning the Mozzart Bet Cup. He rejoined the club in the off-season to replace Francis Baraza, who left for Tanzanian side Pamba Jiji.
Next up for Homeboyz is a league match against Bidco United on Wednesday, 15 October, after the international break.
