A Rodgers Ouma strike and an own goal by Leon David proved decisive as Homeboyz sealed maximum points on the road.

Heading into the clash sitting fifth on 39 points, Homeboyz were keen to close the gap on the league leaders and strengthen their late push for a top-three finish.

Posta Rangers, buoyed by a two-match winning streak and a three-match unbeaten run, were equally motivated to break into the top half of the standings.

The hosts started brightly, dictating the early tempo and creating the first meaningful chances.

Caleb Olilo’s long ball picked out Jackson Macharia in the opening minutes, but the forward’s flick drifted inches wide of the far post.

Rangers continued to press, with Oliver Maloba linking up well with Brian Yakhama, only for Potiphar Odhiambo to produce a timely clearance.

Homeboyz gradually grew into the contest, with Oliver Majaka coming close at the quarter-hour mark after being set up by John Omondi, though his effort sailed wide.

Samuel Odaro soon followed with a dazzling run down the flank, beating his markers before firing narrowly off target with the goalkeeper beaten.

Despite Rangers’ continued threat, Vincent Warambo forced a crucial block from Boniface Onyango; the visitors looked increasingly dangerous.

Majaka squandered a golden chance in the 27th minute after being picked out by Peter Thiong’o, while Odaro missed another clear opportunity moments later following a well-worked move.

The breakthrough finally arrived just past the half-hour mark, albeit in fortunate fashion.

A long delivery from Potiphar Odhiambo caused confusion in the Rangers’ backline, with Musa Mohamed misjudging the ball and Leon David inadvertently turning it into his own net to hand Homeboyz the lead.

Homeboyz nearly doubled their advantage before the break, but Majaka’s struggles in front of goal continued as he missed from close range.

Rangers had a late chance to level through Yakhama, who fired over the bar, leaving the visitors with a slender 1-0 lead at halftime.

The second half maintained the intensity, with Homeboyz threatening early through Thiong’o, whose header drifted just wide. Rangers responded through Yakhama and substitute Brian Marita, but their finishing lacked precision.

As the match progressed, both sides created openings, with Glen Masava and Majaka going close for Homeboyz, while Rangers saw a potential equaliser from Musa Mohamed ruled out for offside with just over ten minutes remaining.

Homeboyz, however, remained composed and sealed the victory in the dying minutes.

A pinpoint delivery from Eston Omengo found Rodgers Ouma, who rose to power home a decisive header and put the result beyond doubt.

The victory lifts Kakamega Homeboyz to 42 points, moving them into third place and firmly into the conversation in the title race.

Posta Rangers, meanwhile, remain 11th, left to rue missed chances in an otherwise competitive display.
