Homeboyz star eyeing Europe move

West African midfielder hopeful of seasling amoney minting move to Europe's famed leagues.

Kakamega Homeboyz midfielder Stephen Opoku is eager to follow the footsteps of his elder brothers who ply their trades in Europe and seal his own move in a not so distant future.

The 22-year old Ghanaian joined Homeboyz after his agent Alukwa Mutanda secured him a two-year deal in February, parting ways with Tanzanian Premier League outfit Singida United. 

Homeboyz are understood to have beaten record champions Gor Mahia and Sofapaka to the attacking midfielder's signature. 

Opoku who has two goals against his name disclosed that his sibling duo of Thomas Boakye and Peter Konadu were featuring in Czech Republic and the Swedish leagues respectively.

" I would like to join my brothers in Europe once my stay at Homeboyz elapses. Their humble beginnings, hard work and the success they are currently enjoying motivates me to keep on pushing everyday.I believe by the time my contract ends, I will have offers on my table. At the moment I am enjoying my time at Homeboyz and East Africa at large, " he said.

Apart from joining his siblings in Europe, Opoku who considers Harambee Stars trialist David Okoth as his buddy revealed his intentions of beating the competition and donning the Black Stars shirt in future.

Opoku who is aiming at netting more than ten league goals in the remaining rounds said moving to Europe will enhance his chances of playing in the national team.

"It is my dream to play for the national team at some point in my career. There is a lot of competition for places in the team but through patience and hard work I will make it. Players who feature in the European leagues have an upper hand when it comes to selection and thus, going professional will improve my chances, " he added.
