The Brewers emerged as the winners of the prestigious tourney after a hard-fought 2-1 win over 2024 champions Kenya Police FC on Sunday, 14 June at the Kwale Stadium.

A first-half brace from former Nzoia Sugar winger Ian Simiyu, either side of an Abud Omar spectacular free kick, was all that the 12-time FKF Premier League champions needed to end their 10-year wait for Mozzart Bet Cup glory.

While many marvelled at the tactical success of Tusker, an unseen hand was pivotal in their victory, as was revealed by their head coach, Julien Mette.

“I want to thank Lamine N’Diaye, who is the USM Alger coach and a friend of mine. He took time to call me and gave me a lot of advice as a big brother, and I really want to thank him.

I took a lot of information from him that helped us to win the Cup,” revealed the French coach.

N’Diaye, who guided Congolese giants TP Mazembe to the 2010 CAF Champions League (CAFCL) title, also had an incredible season with USM Alger, leading them to the highly coveted CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) title as well as the Algerian Cup.

Mette’s loss in the Coupe de Congo (Brazzaville) final to Etoile du Congo while managing AS Otohô also handed him valuable experience ahead of the Mozzart Bet Cup final.

“The Cup final that I lost in Congo also helped me to prepare for the Tusker match as I knew what to do and what not to do,” added the 44-year-old tactician.

Having won the cup title, the 44-year-old will now shift focus to the CAFCC, which will be more demanding, with the first order of business being revamping the squad to meet the standards required in the continental tourney.
