Hussein Mohammed content with outcomes of FKF Special General Meeting

Murang’a Seal FC delegate Hussein Mohammed on Saturday said he is "glad” that something depicting a “clear roadmap” towards the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) elections was finally visible, but had a few reservations on the electoral board given the mandate to conduct the said polls.

Hussein, who finally got the all-clear for Saturday’s high-stakes Special General Meeting (SGM) having been initially barred by FKF, also congratulated the delegates for showing up and partaking in what he called a significant process.

Among the huge takeaways from the SGM was the unanimous passage of a proposal that sought to have the elections conducted as per an amended FKF Electoral Code, which sort of opened the way for more candidates to vie for elective posts.

With Hussein being an interested party - he has been highly linked to be contesting an FKF President seat - he expressed delight in having got past one hurdle saying: “This was a very significant process and I am glad that the meeting happened, and that we now have a clear roadmap that is under the laid out FIFA statutes."

On the significance of the elections code amendment, Hussein added; “It was and is very important for all delegates to scrutinize all sections to make sure that they are within the rules. A significant proposal and what we always cried out for was the changes to Section Four of the code, which we fortunately passed on the floor.”

Part of the major implications of the amendments proposed by Tusker Chairman Charles Gacheru on the floor was to widen the net for requirements of candidates for elective seats, proposing that an individual shall now be eligible having served and participated in active football for just two of the last five years.

And despite supporting the electoral board on Saturday, Hussein provided a caution saying: “We are delighted that they are in place, but highly advise them to use the existing Sports Act as their point of reference.

All Kenyans will have their eyes on them and they should make use of this opportunity of a lifetime.”

The electoral board will consist of seven independent members including Hesbon Owilla, James Waindi, Alfred Ng’ang’a, Dan Mule, Marceline Sande, Farida Lucia Juma and Robert Asembo.

On whether he would recommend IEBC to help the election process hopefully to be conducted by December this year, Hussein said: “I think they would help.

If we are looking to expedite the process, then they tick many boxes since they are independent, structured, have the necessary infrastructure, and are experienced. All we ask for is a free, fair, and transparent election.”
