The conflict between the Swede and the Italian coach has reached a breaking point, with Allegri already considering a new job elsewhere
There is currently no real communication between AC Milan head coach Allegri and Swedish executive Ibrahimovic, with relations having deteriorated sharply. Friction has grown over transfer strategy and alleged behind-the-scenes interference, including phone calls made directly to players.
Regardless of how the battle for Champions League qualification ends, one thing appears increasingly clear: Max Allegri, who returned to Milan with strong emotional ties to the club and the city that once elevated him, has reached a point of exhaustion.

The experienced coach, a Scudetto winner in 2011, is said to be worn down not by opposition teams, but by internal conflicts. Sources suggest he is leaning toward leaving at the end of the season, no matter where Milan finish in the table.
The root of the problem is described as a complete breakdown in his relationship with Ibrahimovic, which reportedly erupted after the defeat in Naples. Tensions had already been simmering for months, but an early April confrontation between the two is said to have escalated things significantly.
The disagreement, oddly enough, centered around the selection of a third-choice goalkeeper for next season — a seemingly minor issue that nevertheless triggered a major fallout. After that incident, Ibrahimovic was no longer present at Milanello for a period and only recently reappeared at San Siro.
This is not the first clash between the two. Years earlier, during Allegri’s previous spell at Milan, a heated exchange took place in the Emirates Stadium dressing room following a Champions League tie against Arsenal in 2012, a story Ibrahimovic himself later recalled publicly.
At the time, despite occasional disputes, results helped keep tensions under control. Milan enjoyed a strong run of form with 24 consecutive positive results, finishing second in the league, while Allegri was credited with stabilising the squad and reconnecting with supporters.
However, problems resurfaced when reports emerged that Ibrahimovic maintained frequent conversations with Antonio Cassano, a vocal critic of Milan’s style on the Twitch show “Viva el futbol.” Further controversy followed claims that RedBird’s senior advisor was not only influencing club direction at ownership level but had also begun contacting players such as Fofana and Leao directly, offering tactical suggestions. This reportedly contributed to confusion within the squad, particularly affecting Leao’s form.
Meanwhile, Allegri had requested reinforcements in January to keep Milan competitive in the race for top positions, but the club insisted financial constraints made it impossible. The only attacking addition was Fullkrug, brought in on loan under minimal cost. Ironically, shortly after, €30 million was reportedly made available for Mateta in a deal handled directly by CEO Furlani, without the involvement of the sporting department.
As the season has progressed, results have worsened and the atmosphere has become increasingly strained. Should Ibrahimovic consolidate his influence within the club structure — with further rumours already linking Milan to a possible sporting director change involving Fabio Paratici — Allegri may be tempted by other opportunities, including interest reportedly shown by Giovanni Malago, potentially steering him toward a move into a new chapter elsewhere.
For now, however, the coach continues to speak cautiously in public, stressing stability and unity in an effort to protect the squad. “My goal is to stay as long as possible,” he recently stated. With only a few matches left in the season, the final decision may not be far away.
