The eccentric Danish forward left Espanyol recently, but is already ready to return. As the owner!

'Strange Case of Martin Braithwaite' could be the name of the next blockbuster with an utterly bizarre and unique plot.

Imagine being a football player who had done medicals on the first day of the pre-season before leaving the club literally a few hours later. Only to return to the same club shortly - as an owner!?

Yes, as much as it sounds awkward, that's exactly the life story of Martin Braithwaite in the last few weeks.

The 33-year-old former Barcelona striker left the city's smaller club, Espanyol, in July despite a fantastic campaign, which saw the Danish striker scoring incredible 22 goals. He almost singlehandedly pushed Espanyol to a La Liga promotion.

However, he was unhappy with the treatment he received from Espanyol's hierarchy, which was one of the reasons for his departure.

Now, according to Marca, Braithwaite is ready to serve the revenge in a spectacular fashion - he's determined to buy the club!

Believe it or not, the Dane is one of the richest footballers in the world. Not thanks to his football qualities, though. He owns a real estate business company in the US, a restaurant and a clothing line, and the funds he has received from these over the years could now allow him to buy the club.

Espanyol are currently owned by Chinese toy car maker Rastar Group and its billionaire chairman, Chen Yansheng.
