'If you thought it couldn't get any lower, it just has'

Manchester are at the bottom of the Premier League for the first time since 1992

As we have written too many times before, Manchester United is a declining club in a deep mess. The Red Devils lost its seventh straight league away game against Brentford yesterday— which left them rock bottom at the table for the first time since 1992. The last time they had such travel sickness was way back in 1936 when they lost 10 on the spin between September and December - and went on to be relegated. But that’s not the biggest problem, no matter how much it sounds strange. The biggest problem is that the club has no proper vision, doesn’t back up its coach, who they begged to join in and doesn’t have new players, even thou it’s half of August already. And the new players don’t want to come to Old Trafford, which has never happened before.

With all these problems, two defeats are not such a big deal, because the problems are much bigger than that. And coach Erik Ten Hag certainly doesn’t like the fact that he is the first United coach in more than a decade who lost his first two games. United's players covered 95.6km during the 90 minutes compared to 109.4km covered by Brentford. The Dutchman changed three players at halftime, but he was honest about eight others.

It's rubbish, it's poor, we need higher standards than that. The good players we had should have been better. I could have changed another eight players. You can have a plan but the plan went into the bin. I can bring up several reasons why but that looks like excuses, and excuses are not there. At the top we have to deliver and we didn't do that. It's difficult for me, it's surprising when you start a game like this. The team has to take responsibility, switch on from the first whistle and be ready for a battle. You have to take responsibility on the pitch as a team and as individuals and that's what we didn't do. But the manager is responsible as well” said furious Ten Hag.

Spanish keeper David De Gea was one of the terrible ones. He acknowledged that himself, by asking a Sky Sports reporter to interview him so he could apologize publicly.

I cost three points for my team. I should save the first shot. All we can do is continue to work hard” said the Spaniard.

It’s easy to predict the fan's reactions on social media after the defeat, but also of many pundits who used to play for United, and Gary Neville was the most brutal of them all.

They've been mauled. It's like a men's team against under-nines. If you thought it couldn't get any lower, it just has. Manchester United players have proved under three different managers have shown they don't run hard enough. They are drained of all confidence. They need help. Today is a new low. It seems like United can continually surpass their lows. The reality is this is really really bad. I've been watching United for 42 years and I can't think of a moment when it's been as bad as it was in that first half” said Neville. And it won’t bet any better for the Red Devils – they meet Liverpool next week.
