According to the Irishman, the country would have players in the big European leagues if players consistently maintained high energy levels

Gor Mahia coach Johnathan McKinstry has lamented the inability of Kenyan players to maintain high levels of performance.

According to the Irishman, the country would have players in the big European leagues if players consistently maintained high energy levels.

"This is something we see throughout Kenyan football. When there are big results and emotional highs, sometimes it's difficult for players to maintain that higher level," the coach said.

He cited the Harambee Stars recent 1-0 loss to lowly ranked South Sudan in a friendly match that followed a shock 2-1 victory over Qatar in another warm-up.

"If guys were able to maintain it every week, they would be playing in England, Germany, and Spain... That's the difference in levels," a visibly frustrated McKinstry added.

After back-to-back wins against AFC Leopards and Tusker FC in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL), Gor Mahia settled for a barren draw against Bidco United on Saturday, leaving McKinstry dejected.

"Full credit to them; they covered well and played on the counter. I think taking a point in a game like this is okay."

The Anthony Akhulia-coached side boasts one of the meanest defenses in the league and have only lost once in eight games.

Overall, the Oilers have won twice, drawn four times, and lost one.

"Sometimes you wake up, but things don't just click; it was one of those days. In such games when you can't win, you make sure you don't lose," said McKinstry.

Next up for K'Ogalo will be a potentially explosive fixture against newbies Shabana FC on Wednesday at Kasarani Stadium.

Shabana are smarting from a 4-0 drubbing by Ulinzi Stars on Sunday, which prompted coach Sammy Okoth to reportedly resign.

However, according to the latest reports, the coach was in charge of the Monday training session.

Shabana have won a game since their return to the top flight.
