Insigne equals Maradona's Napoli scoring record of 115 goals

A tiny winger is about to continue his career at Toronto FC in July, but before he completes the transfer, there are still many things to prove

His lucrative transfer to Canada has been a subject of criticism for days and weeks, with Lorenzo Insigne being labelled as one of those footballers whose wallet is thick, but ethics not so much.

Toronto FC chairman even admitted they bought Insigne following a genuine Transfermarkt research because he was one of the most exciting agents of Italian descent on the market.

However, the fact he has chosen to fly the ocean in July and continue his fruitful career in modest surroundings in terms of football levels doesn't mean Insigne, 30, has forgotten to play the game. And he still does it in some style.

Moreover, he has reached a significant milestone - Insigne scored his 115th goal for Napoli on Sunday in a 4-1 landslide win over Salernitana. That's the same number of times a legendary Diego Armando Maradona netted for the Southerners, and it makes Maradona and Insigne 3rd best ever. Above them are still Dries Mertens (144) and Marek Hamsik (121).

Both Insigne and Mertens netted from the spot against the underdogs for a win that puts them on a runners-up spot at least for a few hours before the Milan vs Juventus derby.

They are in a 3-games-long winning streak and looking much better ahead of the decisive months of the season.
