The Serie A champions could lose two of their best strikers in a matter of days
Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a fee for Lautaro MartÃnez worth in excess of $83million, beating off interest from Arsenal, The Times have reported on Sunday afternoon.
While the football world was preoccupied with Lionel Messi’s departure from Barcelona, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has been plotting his club’s transfer dealings. After the signing of strong defender Cristian Romero, another player from Italian league could be moving to North London.
The Inter Milan forward would play alongside Harry Kane, the England captain who Tottenham have maintained will not be sold despite his wishes and interest from Manchester City this summer. There are assumed to be add-ons in the fee for Martinez as Inter have valued the Argentina forward at around $106 million.
The idea of an attacking partnership consisting of Kane and Martinez will certainly get Spurs fans excited ahead of the new campaign kick-off, but there is a strong possibility the club directors are only buying the Argentine to soften the blow of Kane’s likely departure.

The 23-year-old scored a combined 31 goals and nine assists in the league in the past two seasons playing alongside Romelu Lukaku, the forward who is on the verge of a $135 million move to Chelsea. He helped Inter win the title last season, but it looks like that will be his final achievement in a blue and black shirt.
Inter are already preparing for life without their star players. They have signed Bosnian former Manchester City goalscorer Edin Dzeko from Roma for around $2 million. It’s not a bad deal for a proven striker – even though he’s 35 years old. Another player who could be heading to San Siro is Duvan Zapata. The Colombian hitman has proven himself as one of the league’s best forwards. A fee of around $50 is being mentioned.
The champions of Italy are going to look completely different in the upcoming Serie A campaign. The same can be said about Tottenham. But which set of fans will be happier when the transfer window is closed?
