The Polish striker thanked the club and the fans for his time at the Catalonia — the question of the next step in his career still remains

Robert Lewandowski had hinted several months ago that Barcelona was no longer his priority. As time went on, he did not receive a concrete or serious offer to extend his stay, which ultimately led to a separation between the great striker and the Catalan club.

The Polish forward believed he could still play an important role in a top team, but that was not Barcelona’s plan, as they had already been searching for a new starting number nine for months.

A generational shift has taken place, and Lewandowski has decided to part ways with Barcelona. He will leave at the end of the season as a free agent. He said goodbye to the club on Instagram.

“After four years full of challenges and hard work, it is time for me to move on. I leave with the feeling that I have fulfilled my mission. Four seasons, three trophies. I will never forget the love I received from the fans from day one. Catalonia is my home. Thank you to everyone I met during these four wonderful years. Special thanks to President Laporta for giving me the opportunity to experience the most incredible chapter of my career. Barcelona is back where it belongs. Long live Barca, long live Catalonia,” the Polish striker wrote.

Lewandowski waited for an offer from Barcelona that never came, so he ultimately decided to leave. No agreement was reached, meaning he will no longer wear the blue and red shirt, but he departs after four years as a player who contributed greatly to the club.

He arrived in the summer of 2022 and was one of the most important players first under Xavi, and later under Hansi Flick. In 191 appearances, he scored 119 goals for Barcelona. His best season came in 2024/25, when he scored 42 goals and won three trophies with the club — the Copa del Rey, the Super Cup, and the domestic league title. The only trophy he failed to win with Barcelona was the Champions League.

He will say goodbye to the fans at the weekend when Barcelona host Betis, while his final match in a Barcelona shirt will be six days later in the last league round away at Valencia.

At the moment, the most realistic option for his next destination appears to be a move to Saudi Arabia, although Serie A has also been mentioned as a possibility. There is still plenty of time for him to decide.
