In an emotional message, Trent Alexander-Arnold said goodbye to the club where he came through the ranks — now it's Real Madrid's move

Two out of three. Not bad. Still, it stings for the Scousers — and not just them — that Trent Alexander-Arnold is leaving. Because they love him, or at least loved him more than most; because he’s one of their own; because he came up through the academy, made it into the first team, succeeded there — and now he won’t play for Liverpool anymore.

Unlike Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, who both renewed their contracts with the Reds a few weeks ago, the right-back officially announced on Monday that his time at Anfield will end after the final round of the Premier League this season — a season Arne Slot's squad has dominated and won decisively.

"I know many of you have wondered why or been frustrated that I haven’t spoken about this yet, but it was always my intention to keep my full focus on the team’s best interests, which was securing No.20. This club has been my whole life – my whole world - for 20 years. From the Academy right through until now, the support and love I have felt from everyone inside and outside of the club will stay with me forever. I will forever be in debt to you all. But, I have never known anything else and this decision is about experiencing a new challenge, taking myself out of my comfort zone and pushing myself both professionally and personally. I’ve given my all every single day I’ve been at this club, and I hope you feel like I’ve given back to you during my time here. From the bottom of my heart, I thank everybody – my coaches, my managers, my teammates, the staff and our incredible supporters - for the last 20 years." said TAA in video message.

He made his first-team debut in 2016 under Jurgen Klopp, played 352 matches, scored 23 goals, helped win eight trophies — but now it’s time to move on.

Most likely to Spain. It’s not confirmed yet, but for months now it’s been widely reported that Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to join Real Madrid. It almost doesn’t matter who the manager is — the club needs a right-back. And the best part? He’s a free agent.
