New Manchester United centre-back has been unveiled on the Old Trafford pitch prior to his new team’s match with Leeds United
They say a transfer cannot be considered complete unless there is a photo of a player holding up his new shirt. And if that’s the way to weight up transfers – then Raphael Varane’s move to Manchester United has been completed on Saturday afternoon.
The former Real Madrid defender has agreed to a transfer to the Premier League giants, but the transfer was delayed slightly due to personal reasons and the time of self-isolation any traveller is required to observe upon arriving to the United Kingdom.
✍️ He's here. It's signed.

Well, now it’s complete. Varane posed with a red United shirt on the Old Trafford pitch before the Leeds United match. It was a welcome sight for more than 70,000 people who gathered at The Theatre of Dreams after a long Covid-induced exile. He was given a huge ovation by the crowd inside Old Trafford as he entered the field minutes before kick-off.
"Manchester United is one of the most iconic clubs in world football and the chance to come here and play in the Premier League is something I couldn't turn down. There is a lot more that I want to achieve in my career and I know I'm joining a squad full of great players who will all have the same determination to win matches and trophies."
A World Cup winner with France in 2018, Varane won four Champions League and three La Liga titles with Real Madrid during 10 years in the Spanish capital.
