The African football legend had his word on the feud between the Atalanta boss and Okocha's compatriot
For a few days now, media in Italy and worldwide have been reporting about the strange feud between Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini and one of the team's biggest stars, Ademola Lookman.
It started in the aftermath of Atalanta's dreadful Champions League exit at the hands of Club Brugge, as Gasperini criticised Lookman for missing a penalty in the shocking loss.
The experienced boss openly said that the Nigerian might be 'one of the worst penalty takers ever', which echoed around the world. The player himself took to social media to respond, saying that Gasperini's words were 'deeply disrespectful'.
Various former players, including the legendary Jay-Jay Okocha, have commented on this awkward case.
The former Super Eagles captain and Lookman's compatriot had a lot to say about Gasperini's harsh words.
"I think Gasperini overreacted by calling Lookman the worst penalty taker," stated Okocha, before adding: "He seems to have forgotten the incredible contributions Lookman has made to Atalanta. Many top players have missed crucial penalties without facing such harsh criticism, so why is Lookman's case being treated differently? In my opinion, if you take Lookman out of Atalanta, the club could struggle and even risk relegation," concluded Jay-Jay.
