Quite a blow for the reigning champions of Europe

With two days remaining for Portugal to begin their participation in the continental tournament - one of the players who had a terrific season will not be able to assist his national team.

Joao Cancelo has tested positive for coronavirus and will miss the rest of the competition. To replace Cancelo - in comes Diogo Dalot of Milan (on loan from Manchester United).

Cancelo, one of the best men of City's successful season, had to leave the camp after testing positive for a rapid antigen test.

Subsequently, the player underwent a PCR that ended up confirming the result.

Pretty unlucky for the defenders of the European title - Cancelo's impact will surely be missed by Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Man City teammates Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva and the rest of Fernando Santos' crew.

The rest of the Portuguese players were subjected to the same tests and they all showed negative results.

The Portuguese federation itself has reported what happened and has revealed that the young Dalot will be the replacement for the former Valencia and Juventus footballer.

Portugal played a friendly match against Spain on June 4th. La Furia Roja had their experienced midfielder Sergio Busquets eliminated from the Euro 2020 selection due to being positive to coronavirus and that game could not have affected Cancelo.

He was not present at that match as he was on vacation after playing the Champions League final.
