The FKF Premier League encounter, played on Wednesday, 14 January, at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani, saw Seal surrender a two-goal advantage in the second half.

Waithira had given Murang’a Seal a dream start with an early strike inside the opening ten minutes before Francis Memuso doubled the lead, leaving Gor Mahia reeling.

However, Osborne Monday’s charges, who went into the match on a ten-game unbeaten run, could not protect the advantage as Gor Mahia mounted a spirited comeback after the break.

Second-half goals from Paul Ochuoga and Felix Oluoch brought the champions level before Ebenezer Asifuah sealed the turnaround with a late winner.

Speaking after the match, Waithira dismissed talk of a collapse, insisting such swings are part of the game.

“It is football, and anything can change within seconds. We were 2–0 up but lost concentration in the second half. Gor Mahia capitalized on the lapses and took their chances,” he said.

Waithira, who recently scooped the league’s Player of the Month award for his role in Seal’s impressive run of form, also reflected on his personal consistency this season.

His goal against Gor Mahia was his eighth of the campaign, further strengthening his push in the Golden Boot race.

“The secret is prayers and hard work. I always dedicate myself to my game through prayer, but prayers alone are not enough. You have to put in the work on the pitch and perform,” he added.

Despite the setback, Waithira said the team remains focused as they shift attention to their next fixture, determined to draw lessons from the defeat.

The win lifted Gor Mahia to the top of the league standings, dislodging AFC Leopards on goal difference, while Murang’a Seal remained ninth, retaining their place in the top half of the table.
