Misr Lel Makkasa are rock bottom with two games left to the end of the season

Kenyan international John Avire was handed a start by Misr Lel Makkasa in the solitary goal defeat to Ghazl El Mahallah in the Egyptian Premier League as his team suffered relegation.

The former Sofapaka forward returned to the starting lineup after missing the match-day squad in the 3-0 defeat to Arab Contractors with the club failing to provide an update on his absence.

The defeat compounded Makkasa to their 14th consecutive game without tasting victory and ultimately the torrid form sealed their fate in the Egyptian top tier as they suffered the drop.

Makkasa still have two games left this season but their unassailable 14 points gap to safety with six available to fight for led to them being relegated prematurely.

So poor have Makkasa been this season that they have managed to win only two games all campaign and have scored a league-low 12 goals.

The first half of the game was a muted affair with both teams struggling to find the cutting edge that would slice open each other's defenses as they went into the break locked in a barren draw.

Just when the game looked to be ending in a barren draw, up stepped Abdel Yehia who fired Mahallah ahead in the 74th minute to break Makkasa’s hearts.

Yehia’s goal proved the match winner as Mahallah sealed their place in the top flight for another season.
