Juve keeps winning and Vlahovic keeps scoring

The Serbian striker got the winner against Genoa

Two wins from two games for Juventus and their coach Igor Tudor. But in both those matches, the performance was dull, the creativity was non existent and the score was tight. Against Parma, it was 1-0 until the very end when the reserve striker Dušan Vlahović scored the second goal and tonight in Genoa, the Serbian striker again came from the bench, but this time he netter a winner: 1-0. His countryman Filip Kostić also came in and delivered a fantastic corner from the left side, and Vlahović, with a technically perfect header, secured the Turin giant’s win. Vlahović and Kostić, along with Teun Koopmeiners, entered the pitch in the last half hour to try to solve Juventus’ struggles against Patrick Vieira’s well-organized defense.

The Old Lady had a hard time finding a way to the opponent’s goal in the first half, and even more so in the opening minutes of the second, so changes were essential. Luckily for Tudor and the traveling fans, they brought exactly what was needed. Juventus struggled for the first 40 minutes to create any danger for Leali’s goal, and then suddenly picked up the tempo in the final moments of the half. Still, Genoa’s goalkeeper stopped efforts from Gatti and Yıldız, and then David missed an incredible sitter from a rebound. Genoa threatened only through Elertson. In the 43rd-minute situation, the best chance Juventus had before the goal, Yıldız shook off his marker and shot left-footed toward the far corner, Leali managed to save, and David fired the rebound over the bar from two meters out.

Dušan Vlahović responded in style to a situation in which he was pushed toward an exit due to his high wages, and began the season as an alternative to the newcomer from Lille. However, the Serb has so far been more productive than the Canadian. Against Parma in the first round, he came on in the 80th minute and scored just four minutes later. Tonight, entering earlier, it took him only 11 minutes to find the net. The Serbian international is, at this moment, the only player in Serie A alongside Marcus Thuram to have scored twice in the new season. With two opening wins, Juventus has laid the perfect foundation for what awaits them after the international break: the derby with Inter in Turin and the Champions League clash with Dortmund at the same venue.
