Frosinone finally win in the Serie A thanks to Matias Soule

A comeback worthy of survival hope! Frosinone cut their five-game losing streak with an encouraging comeback 3-1 win over Cagliari, the team who stopped playing as soon as they took the lead in this Serie A clash.

Frosinone secured their first Serie A victory over Cagliari since 1988, putting an end to their five-match losing streak with a convincing 3-1 win, marked by three second-half goals.

In the initial 15 minutes at the Stadio Benito Stirpe, both Frosinone and Cagliari, positioned just outside the Serie A relegation places, engaged in a tense battle, prioritizing solid defence to avoid conceding an early goal. A breakthrough seemed reliant on a moment of brilliance, with Walid Cheddira coming close with a powerful first-time shot, expertly saved by Simone Scuffet.

A cautious period ensued until Cagliari capitalized on a rare offensive move. An early cross, cleared by Caleb Okoli, fell to Ibrahim Sulemana, who opened his Serie A account with a powerful low strike, granting Cagliari the lead. Frosinone, however, responded before halftime, with Enzo Barrenechea volleying into the net. Unfortunately, VAR intervened, disallowing the goal due to a foul in the build-up.

Frosinone, eager to break their 239-minute goal drought, intensified their efforts in the second half. Substitute Abdou Harroui provided an inch-perfect cross for Luca Mazzitelli, who headed into the top corner, levelling the score. The momentum swung in Frosinone's favour, and Juventus' on-loan talent Matias Soule capitalized on a direct free-kick, delivering a stunning strike over the wall and into the net.

Cagliari, forced to push forward, left defensive vulnerabilities, allowing Frosinone to exploit a late breakaway. Kaio Jorge converted Nadir Zortea's cross, sealing the 3-1 victory for Frosinone. The Canaries showcased persistence and were rewarded with three points. Their home form, accounting for 20 of their 22 Serie A points, is crucial for their survival hopes.

Despite leading at halftime, Cagliari exhibited little ambition to extend their advantage. Their away struggles persist, as they are yet to secure a win on the road this season.
