Rising from the lower tiers to the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL), on sporting merit, is a treacherous journey that demands nothing but; ruthless focus, determination, deep pockets, discipline, among others.
However, the Kagere FC fraternity understands this all too well and is willing to pay the price, and follow in the footsteps of the football giants from the greater Central Kenya region.
The recent promotion of the Murang'a-based Kabati Youth to the National Super League (NSL) left Kagere players convinced that their journey to the top level in unstoppable, according to skipper John Ndegwa.
The forward also cited Murang'a Seal's run in the top-tier and their impressive performance in the Mozzart Bet Cup, where they reached the semifinals, as another source of motivation.
Embu's 3K FC, who are in their maiden season in the NSL, Fortune Sacco of Kirinyaga, and Nyeri's Marafiki FC are the other teams Kagere players have been tapping inspiration from.
Besides looking up to their bigger brothers, Kagere received a shot in the arm in their operations and pursuit of promotion after the leading gaming firm, Mozzart Bet, donated kits and footballs on Thursday.
Ndegwa says the sporting equipment will go a long way in fueling their resolve to rewrite the history of Nyeri football and sports in the region at large.
"Our main goal is to rise to the Football Kenya Federation Premier League. It is a long journey, but we are determined to achieve it. If our friends from Murang'a and Embu have made it, we can also do it. We require support for us to achieve it, and this is why we are grateful to Mozzart Bet for their aid. It means a lot for us," remarked Ndegwa.
The Martin Gitonga-coached side plies trade in the Nyeri County Zone C League, sitting second on the log. Their home matches are staged at the Kagere Primary School's Grounds.
"The donation will push the boys and give us a fresh look as well. We could not have asked for more from Mozzart Bet and anyone else who has been supporting us," added Ndegwa.
