The midfielder becomes the third Kenyan to sign for an Ethiopian side this transfer window.

Kenyan international Francis Kahata has joined the list of players signing for Ethiopian outfits after completing his move to Sidama Coffee Sporting Club.

The former Gor Mahia midfielder has been a free agent since parting ways with Tanzanian heavyweights Simba back in June after running down his contract.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, a source close to Kahata revealed that the player had other offers from Zambia and Egypt but settled on Sidama due to their relentless pursuit.

"He had various offers most notably in Zambia and Egypt but Sidama Coffee came in recently with serious interest and completed the deal very fast. They wanted the player and were very cooperative during the negotiations. That made it easier for the move to happen,"

"He leaves for Ethiopia this evening and he's very excited to start afresh in a league that's is on the upward trajectory," said the source.

Kahata will join Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) top scorer Eric Kapaito and former Wazito skipper Bernard Ochieng who joined Arba Minch City FC.

The former Thika United midfielder was linked with a return to Gor Mahia but a Ksh2,000,000 upfront fee put of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup champions with KCB also reported to be after his services.

Sidama Coffee was also home to former Kenyan forward Sunday Mutuku who joined Kakamega Homeboyz at the start of the season.

The club has the South Castle Cup under their belt which they clinched back in 2016 and finished in ninth place last season in the Ethiopian Premier League.

Ethiopia has recently exploited the Kenyan market with Patrick Matasi signing for St.George after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
