After snapping a three-month goal drought, Kakamega Homeboyz striker Pius Wangi has set an ambitious target of 15 goals before the end of the season.

Wangi came off the bench to score in the 75th minute, giving Homeboyz a 1-0 win over FC Talanta.

The goal was Wangi's second of the season, coming after three months without scoring.

Prior to the Saturday strike, the Ugandan forward had not scored since September, when Homeboyz fought from behind to share the spoils with Tusker FC in a four-goal thriller.

The goal against Tusker was the former Vipers SC attacker's maiden league goal after joining the 2023 Mozzart Bet Cup winners from Mbarara City in August.

The win halted Homeboyz' four-game winless streak and gave them their fourth victory of the season.

"It feels good to score again after a three-month goal drought. I am relieved to have put an end to my long drought, and I am now focused on scoring 13 more goals to finish the season with 15," Wangi stated.

Reflecting on the team's performance, the diminutive forward expressed confidence the victory over Talanta would reinvigorate Abana Beingo's season.

Since August 2024, the Francis Baraza-led side has struggled for consistency, winning four and drawing seven of the first sixteen matches of the season.

The result brought the Kakamega-based squad eight points closer to table toppers KCB FC.

"It is a good result for the club after being unlucky in our previous four attempts. I believe this is the turning point in our season, and hopefully, we can be more clinical up front," he continued.

The one-time Uganda Premier League winner with Express FC, who has mostly been a second-half substitute, will be hoping for more playing time in future league games.

"As a forward, you always want to be involved; nonetheless, I have been patiently working towards more minutes, and hopefully I can get more minutes under my feet in the upcoming fixtures," said the player.
