Talanta players downed tools in course of the week.
Kakamega Homeboyz are on course to pocket three points without breaking sweat after their match day opponents in the penultimate game of the season FC Talanta failed show up at Ruaraka Stadium on Sunday.
Talanta players who had threatened to give the game a wide berth owing to the delayed allowances backdating to last season and the one million prize money dished they were to get for winning the National Super League (NSL).
The league newbies who enjoy double shirt sponsorship from the Communications Authority of Kenya and a betting firm were supposed to be the host but in less than half an hour to kick off, the players were nowhere to be seen.
The club's head coach Kenneth Kenyatta, goalkeepers' trainer Jackson Gatheru, trainer Edwin Mwaira and former skipper who has since joined the technical bench, Patrick Muchiri availed themselves at the facility as well as the bus driver.
Members of the technical bench who had already set up the training gears and cones on the pitch resorted to light training with the ball boys while the medics would be seen prattling from the far end of the pitch.
Dejected Homeboyz players made way to the pitch, had their cards inspected against a database as per the norm and proceeded for a rest at the technical bench.
The referees appointed to man the game similarly walked to the pitch ready for the warm up but after noticing that Talanta were no where to be seen, they resorted to their tent.
Kenyatta couldn't hide his frustration after reporting to duty in vain. The former goalkeeper laid the blame to the management.
"This is beyond me. I played my role but unfortunately the management didn't. They are better placed to explain why the players didn't train or turn for the game," explained the former Ushuru coach.
After waiting for Talanta for the better part of the first half, the fourth official called off the game and subsequently, Homeboyz will get three points once the leagues and competitions committee reviews the report and hears Talanta's reason for failing to show up.
