Ken Kenyatta is yet to win a game since being installed as the Kakamega Homeboyz head coach
Kakamega Homeboyz have asked under-fire head coach Ken Kenyatta to step aside after losing 4-1 to KCB FC on Saturday.
Club chairman Cleophas Shimanyula confirmed to Mozzart Sport, that the former FC Talanta tactician has been suspended for three weeks.
The chairman who is also in the FKF presidential race noted that they are actively seeking for someone to handle the team ahead of their midweek fixture.
“It is true we have asked him to step aside due to poor results. We will engage him after three weeks and decide his fate after that. In the meantime, we will announce his temporary replacement on Monday considering that we have a midweek fixture,” he said.
Shimanyula said it was unacceptable that the club had picked only two points in their opening five matches this season.
“This is not our standard, we deserve better considering that we have a good team that should be competing with the best in the league,” he said.
Other sources in the team intimated that Kenyatta was not on good terms with the rest of the technical bench and a number of players.
“It was hard for him to perform because the working relationship between him and some members of the technical bench was not cordial and it affected the performance of the team,” said our source.
Kenyatta joined Kakamega Homeboyz in August after a long stint with FC Talanta. He had also been suspended by the Nairobi-based club owing to poor string of results
In August, he expressed his excitement at joining the Kakamega-based side as it was his first time to work outside Nairobi.
“It is an exciting opportunity considering it is my first coaching job outside Nairobi. My target is to help this club do better than they did last season,” he said then.
Kenyatta at the time praised the management of Homeboyz for giving him all the support as he handled the side.
“At Talanta, I had to motivate the players with my own resources yet we still did well every season. This is a different environment and the management is more supportive so you can expect a better performance.”
