Mwalala took over from Otieno in July.
KCB FC's new head coach, Bernard Mwalala, has discussed the importance of starting the new season with a win ahead of Friday’s league match against AFC Leopards at the Moi Kasarani Stadium.
The Bankers, who were not in action in week one, will be seeking to overcome Leopards, who settled for a draw against Talanta last Sunday at Nyayo Stadium. KCB were set to play Homeboyz, but the game had to be postponed as Homeboyz had a continental assignment in Libya.
Ahead of the Friday showdown, Mwalala, who took over from Zedekiah Otieno in July, says the plan is to kick start their 2023–24 campaign with a triumph over a Leopards side that has signed massively during this window and looked off pace during their match against Talanta on Sunday.
"It is important to start the season strongly, and the goal is definitely to get the three points when we play AFC Leopards on Friday," he told Mozzart Sport.
The former Kenyan international admitted that they are somehow disadvantaged as this will be their first assignment of the season against a team that has already played a game.
"It is our first game of the season, and we will be playing a team that has already played a game, and I think on that front they have some advantage because they have already competed, while we will be trying to get it right on our first match," he added.
He, however, adds that they have prepared well for the campaign and exude confidence that they will do well against Ingwe.
"I think we are ready. We had a good pre-season; we have noted improvements in individual players and also the whole team, and it is now about implementing what we have been doing throughout the pre-season in a competitive assignment".
