KEFWA hopeful CAF will rescind Starlets' AWCON qualifier withdrawal

Kenya has been suspended from all football activities by FIFA recently due to Government interference in FKF matters

World football players' union FIFPro in conjunction with Kenya Footballers Welfare Association (KEFWA) have made an appeal against the withdrawal of Harambee Starlets from the Africa Women's Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifiers.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) CEO Barry Otieno, in a letter to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), stated the body was "unable to independently plan and successfully execute any international matches".

The letter led to Kenya's match against opponents Uganda Crested Cranes being cancelled and the latter given a bye to the AWCON final set for Morocco in July

The appeal, lodged at the Court of Arbitration for Sport on behalf of Starlets seeks to overturn the cancellation of the tie by CAF.

"We wrote to FIFA through FIFPro and we are hopeful they will urge CAF to rescind the decision to award Uganda Cranes a walkover. They know too well the situation Kenyan football is in at the moment. The caretaker committee is in charge at the moment. Gor Mahia and Tusker have played continental matches under the caretaker committee so it's unfair to deny Starlets a chance. We are yet to get a response but we remain hopeful," James Situma, KEFWA president offered in an interview with Mozzart Sport.

Starlets' chances of reinstatement are, however, slim seeing as the country has already been suspended from all footballing activities by FIFA following government interference where the FKF leadership and secretariat was disbanded by the Minister of Sport and in their place, a Caretaker Committee installed.
