AFC Leopards defender Ken Owino has opened up on how they found it hard to play against Nairobi City Stars despite eventually finding a way to win.

Simba wa Nairobi hosted Ingwe in an FKF Premier League match played on Sunday 2 February at Dandora Stadium with the visitors winning the match 1-0.

In a match that looked evenly balanced with very few chances for whichever side, AFC Leopards got a reward for their resilience and scored the match's only goal in the 73rd minute when second-half substitute Kayci Odhiambo stepped forward to score from the spot.

Speaking exclusively to Mozzart Sport after the match, Owino shared details of the complexity of the match.

“It was a tough match. Our plan did not work as expected after preparing throughout the week but we got the win which is the most important thing.

There is a system their new coach likes to play and so we worked on that but we didn't perfect it. All in all, we ensured they do not create big chances,” stated Owino.

The former Posta Rangers man was at the heart of defense that came out with a clean sheet, Ingwe's third in 10 games and shared just how they were unable to stop the hosts from scoring.

“We had watched how we conceded goals in our past matches and decided to correct it. We realized that anytime we kept a clean sheet in the first half, we went ahead to win the match and so we minimized mistakes especially close to our goal,” he remarked.

The Kisumu-born player maintained that the team is focused on winning the FKF Premier League title and are treating every match as a final until the end of the season.

“We are just working on winning three points in all our remaining matches, we cannot afford to drop points now,” he said.

Ingwe's next match will be against Kariobangi Sharks on Sunday 9 February in the second match of a double-header that will be staged at the Dandora Stadium.
