Kennedy Ochieng holding on faint survival hopes at Mathare United

With each passing game, the alarm bells continue to ring louder for Mathare United but defender Kennedy Ochieng believes that the team has an outside chance of beating the dreaded drop.

The Slum Boys suffered a 1-0 defeat in the relegation six-pointer against Vihiga Bullets which leaves them with a 15 point buffer to safety.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Ochieng admitted that fears of relegation have gripped the squad with financial issues being the reason behind their poor form.

“Right now there is a slight fear that has crept into the team but that is not to mean that we will not survive. Things have been tough recently which is why that fear has come.

There was some confidence but after that Bullets defeat its a bit different, financial issues have been letting the team down because training has been a challenge and the players have really been sacrificing,” said Ochieng.

The 2008 Premier League champions have only won three games this season and have the leakiest defense having shipped 54 goals.

Ochieng revealed that the defeat to Bullets was a key determiner of who was going to suffer relegation but was hopeful of better results in the remaining nine games.

“It was very tough accepting that result because it was very disappointing, that was the game that would determine how things would go as far as relegation is concerned. It was a crucial game, it has really affected us but we hope we can get positive results in the remaining games that will ensure safety for us,” added Ochieng.
