Kenya will hope to register a victory they face Uganda in their final Group A match on Saturday 21 December
Kenya 17's hopes of featuring in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations have been delt a severe blow following a 1-0 loss to Tanzania at the Nakivubo Hamz Stadium, Kampala, Uganda.
Kenya went into the match knowing that a win would put them on the front foot for advancing to the semi-finals of the competition after fellow group members Tanzania and Uganda settled for a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
The 15th edition of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations is slated for Sunday 30 March to Saturday 19 April 2025 in Morocco.
Kenya are hoping to join hosts Morocco, Angola, Egypt, Zambia, Ivory Coast, Senegal, and Mali who have already booked a spot in the continental showpiece.
Salim Babu’s charges however had a tough start to the game as they went behind in the 19th minute when Juma Sagwe handed Tanzania the lead.
Tanzania held on to the slender lead as they went into the halftime break leading 1-0.
With the lead, Tanzania opted to sit deep and soak in the pressure in a bid to register their first win of the tournament.
Despite huffing and puffing in the second half, Kenya failed to net a goal that would see them share the spoils as Tanzania walked home with three points.
Kenya will now have to beat Uganda to advance to the semi-finals of the tournament.
