Junior Starlets are set to face Uganda in the second round of the 2026 FIFA U17 Women's World Cup qualifiers, with the first leg set for Friday, 22 May at FUFA Stadium, before a return match on Saturday, 30 May at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Speaking ahead of their departure to Uganda, Cheche explained the absence of two key players from her final squad.

“For the squad, we have two changes because of two players who are nursing injuries. Rose (Nangila) got injured while in school in Uganda, and Lindey (Atieno) is struggling with a waist injury, and she cannot run effectively for about two weeks,” said Cheche.

Nonetheless, the soft-spoken tactician expressed her confidence in the team to secure a win against the Teen Cranes while calling on Kenyans in the neighbouring country to show up for the girls.

“The team is psyched up for the match and to get maximum points both home and away, and that is what we are pushing for.

I would like to urge all Kenyans in Uganda to please turn up in large numbers and support the girls,” she added.

Her sentiments were echoed by Mwanakombo Bakari, who is banking on the team’s adaptability to any kind of opponent.

“We have prepared well for the match, just like I believe they have done and are confident of a win. We do not know them much because the team has changed, but we will adapt to whatever way they set up,” said Bakari.

For captain Beverline Awuor, the faith that Kenyans have bestowed upon the team will be the motivating factor against Uganda.

“Fans are expecting a lot from us, and we will not disappoint them. I have personally never played against Uganda, but I know they are a good side and we must give our best show,” said Awuor.
