Kenya U20 midfielder Irad Mshindi is set to complete a move from Swedish third-tier side Enköpings SK to FK Liepaja of Latvia.
The two clubs have struck a deal that will see the former Musingu Scorpions captain play in the Latvian top flight from the next season, just four months after joining the Swedish club.
Mshindi had attracted interest from several clubs in Sweden, primarily from the second tier.
However, after consulting with his representatives, the decision was made to move to Latvia.
This will be his second professional club since leaving Kenya, as he did not feature locally before his move to Sweden.
A source close to the negotiations told Mozzart Sport that the choice of FK Liepāja was made with the player’s long-term career development in mind.
“There were several options on the table, but a decision in the best interest of the player’s growth had to be made. After weighing all options, it was decided he would move to Latvia to develop.
Irad has caught the attention of many clubs in Europe, and even in Latvia he will be on the radar of scouts. It is only a matter of time before he moves to one of the top leagues in Europe,” the source revealed.
Mshindi, an alumnus of Musingu High School, first gained attention during the 2024 School Games.
He was also part of the Kenya U20 squad at the African Nations Cup in Egypt last year.
The midfielder is often compared to former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama due to his physique and playing style.
FK Liepaja, founded in 2014, is based at the Daugava Stadium in Liepāja and competes in the Latvian Higher League.
In their debut season, they finished fourth in the 2014 Latvian Higher League.
