Out of the 32 teams that participated, Legacy Academy finished 27th

Legacy Academy, a Kenyan football academy based in Karura, Kiambu, had a strong showing on the second day of the Salt Mine Cup on Sunday, winning two matches and losing one in the playoffs.

The Kenyan academy had posted mixed results in the seven matches that they played on the first day of the tournament on Saturday, managing to win one, draw three, and lose three to finish seventh in the eight-team group with six points, scoring eight goals and conceding 11.

Their performance on Saturday however was not enough to see them continue contending for the trophy and had to make do with playing the placement matches.

Nevertheless, their moment of the tournament might have come when they held Sporting CP to a two-all draw in the last match of the group, the best team from the opening day matches who only dropped points to the Kenyan side.

Sporting CP went ahead to emerge winners overall in the tournament, playing to a draw in regular time in the final against Dinamo Zagreb but went on to win 3-1 on post-match penalties.

The glamarous annual tournament is famed for hosting junior sides of some of the best teams in the world with Liverpool, Sporting CP, Dinamo Zagreb, Banik Ostrava amongst others leading the list.

Legacy Academy beat various other academies in February to qualify for the Salt Mine Cup in 2022.

Founded by revered youth coach Stanley Okumbi who also serves as the Sporting Director, the academy trains at the Karura Forest football pitch along Limuru road.
