Din-Kariuki, who has served as the club’s lead data scout since March 2025, was among the key performance and recruitment analysts behind the scenes as Villa delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over German side SC Freiburg in the final played in Istanbul on Wednesday, 20 May.
The Premier League side produced a clinical performance on the European stage, with goals coming from Youri Tielemans, Emiliano Buendía, and Morgan Rogers sealing a memorable continental triumph under Spanish tactician Unai Emery.
The victory not only delivered European silverware but also highlighted Emery’s growing legacy in continental competition with Villa.
For Aston Villa, the win carries historic weight. It halted a 43-year wait for a major European trophy and adds to the club’s proud continental heritage dating back to their European Cup triumph in 1982.
It also ended a 30-year silverware drought, with their last major honour being the 1996 League Cup victory over Leeds United.
The victory further secured Aston Villa’s qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League campaign, reinforcing their resurgence among Europe’s elite under Emery’s leadership.
For Din-Kariuki, the achievement represents a major leap in a career built steadily across continents and roles.
He joined Villa in 2024 from Danish side AC Horsens, where he worked as a first-team recruitment analyst, before quickly rising through the ranks to become lead data scout.
His European journey began earlier at Oxford United, where he developed his foundation in recruitment analysis between 2020 and 2023 after an initial spell in coaching at Kenyan side Kariobangi Sharks.
The Kenyan analyst was also recently recognised at the prestigious Football Black List Awards in the “Ugo Ehiogu Ones to Watch” category, further highlighting his growing reputation within elite football analytics circles.
