Kenyan defender Daniel Anyembe clocked 100 appearances for Esbjerg in the Danish 1st Division.

Achieving 100 appearances for a club is no mean feat but Kenyan defender Daniel Anyembe claimed the coup on Thursday for Danish club Esbjerg.

Esbjerg played their third game of the season in the Danish 1st Division against Silkeborg but unfortunately for Anyembe his 100th appearance was soiled by a 1-2 defeat.

This was their first loss of the season after registering a barren draw in their opener against Vendsyssel and picked up their maiden win against Fredericia.

Few Kenyans have managed to clock 100 appearances for a single club in Europe with Amos Ekhalie who featured 231 times for Finnish club IFK Mariehamn being one of the few.

Anyembe has represented Denmark Junior national team and holds Danish citizenship but qualifies to play for Kenya through his father who is Kenyan.

The 22-year-old played his first match in the Danish Superliga on 4 December 2016 against Brøndby IF coming on as a 46th-minute substitute in place of Andreas Nordvik.

The right-back can remedy the problematic position in the Harambee Stars squad with Philemon Otieno and David Owino deployed in the position as a stop-gap measure though Baraka Badi has shown glimpses of what he can offer.

The game against Silkeborg was also a milestone for 16-year-old Phun Mang who became the youngest ever Esbjerg player to feature for the club in the 1st Division.

The forward turned 16 on January 25, and is officially an Esbjerg U17 player but has been named in the matchday squad for all the matches this season.
