The 20-year-old defensive midfielder completed nationality switch and will be rewarded with Serbian passport, but won't play for their national team
A much promising Kenyan international, Richard Odada, 20, has gained Serbian citizenship, the Serbian authorities officially confirmed on Tuesday.
The decision about Odada's citizenship approval was made on July 9 and signed by prime minister Ana Brnabic.
As Mozzart Sport Kenya reported earlier, the process of obtaining Serbian citizenship began a few months ago and has now successfully ended.
However, this doesn't mean the defensive midfielder will be eligible to play for the Serbian national team, but he'll be treated as a non-foreign player with a Serbian passport in his hands.
Odada is under contract with the Serbian powerhouse Red Star Belgrade with whom he celebrated the club's third championship title in a row in May.
Soon after, he was sent on loan to top-division mid-table side Metalac from the city of Gornji Milanovic, where he will be given much-needed minutes to prove his qualities and earn a return flight to Red Star.
The fact that Richard is young is more than favourable, and he should be in the plans for the future of the Red-and-Whites of Belgrade.
Odada arrived at Red Star as a teenager. He played for the youth team, then in the second-tier side Graficar, where he impressed and was consequently promoted to the Red Star senior team.
Metalac coach Zarko Lazetic, a former interim manager of Red Star archrivals Partizan, believes that Odada will be a quality addition that will improve the clubs' overall position during the upcoming Serbian Super League season which kicks off on July 16.
