Kenyan sides miss out on Africa's top 75 clubs in CAF rankings

This year, Premier League sides Nairobi United and Kenya Police will be represented in CAF interclub competitions

Kenyan clubs were nowhere to be seen as CAF unveiled the club rankings of the top 75 clubs in the continent for 2025.

The list was released on Friday, 8 August ahead of the interclub draws for African elite leagues; CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup for the 2025/26 season.

The draws for the two interclub leagues will take place today, Saturday 9 August in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 1300 hrs EAT (1000 hrs GMT) with the rankings used to assign teams to various pots.

Once again, Al Ahly have retained their position at the apex of the continent with 78 points a testament to their status as Africa's most successful club in history and performance.

The Egyptian giants have won four of the last six CAF Champions League and eliminated Kenya's Gor Mahia on a 6-0 aggregate in the second preliminary round last season.

South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns who have won the domestic leagues for the last eight consecutive times are second with 62 points as Esperance Sportive De Tunis of Tunisia close the top three with 57 points.

Reigning CAF Confederation Cup champions RS Berkane of Morocco are fourth with 52 points while Tanzanian giants Simba SC who were runners up in the Confederation Cup take the fifth position with 48 points to become the highest ranked East African club.

The other teams from sixth to tenth respectively are Pyramids (Egypt), Zamalek (Egypt), Wydad AC (Morocco), USM Alger (Algeria) and CR Belouizdad (Algeria).

Tanzania has the highest representation (3) in the CECAFA region. Young Africans (Yanga) at joint 11th with 34 points and Namungo at joint 75th with 0.5 points are the other Tanzanian clubs.

Sudan's Al Hilal are joint 11th with Yanga and are joined by Al Merreikh, ranked joint 39th as the other Sudanese club.

In Kenya's 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) group, it is only Kenya that had no club in the top 75. However, Harambee Stars are at the summit of the group with four points.

In the Saturday interclub draw, Kenya will be represented by Kenya Police FC who will compete in the Champions League and Nairobi United who will compete in the Confederation Cup.
