The duo have formed a solid wall at the heart of K’Ogalo’s defense since matchday two, following the team’s 1-0 loss to Bidco United in their opening fixture.

Kibwage, who joined Gor at the start of the season from Tusker FC, was among the new recruits brought in during the club’s rebuilding phase under the stewardship of club patron Eliud Owalo.

So sturdy has been the record Kenyan champions' defense that they are yet to concede a goal from open play this campaign.

Speaking to Telecomasia.net, Kibwage revealed that their strong on-field chemistry stems from a long-standing friendship off the pitch, a bond that has translated into a formidable understanding during matches.

We have been friends for a long time, and not only have we played together in the national team, but also during our small-sided games at home where we are neighbours,” Kibwage said.

"I think this has been a really good foundation because we understand each other off the field, and we translate that to the field as well. Not just the two of us, but Byrne (Omondi), our keeper as well. We have a very strong bond.”

The two defenders also featured together for Harambee Stars during the African Nations Championship (CHAN), and Kibwage believes that experience continues to inspire their performances at the club level.

We are just getting started, and I believe together we can achieve great things this season. The spirit we carried on from CHAN is pushing us towards achieving something great at the club level,” he added.

Gor Mahia currently sit second in the FKF Premier League standings with 12 points, just one behind leaders Kakamega Homeboyz.

Since the Bidco defeat, the record champions have won four straight matches, all featuring the Kibwage–Owino partnership in central defense.
