The forward has scored two goals goals this season

Nairobi City Stars forward Nicholas Kipkirui is hoping for better performance with Simba wa Nairobi after overcoming a recent injury that had seen him miss seven games for the side this season.

The former Gor Mahia player suffered an ankle sprain during the first game of the year against AFC Leopards at Nyayo Stadium where he limped off as City Stars lost to Ingwe by a solitary goal.

As a result of the injury, Kipkirui was sidelined for a whole month and went on to miss four games against Talanta, Tusker, and back-to-back games against Kakamega Homeboyz as the league entered the second leg.

“Though I have not met my expectation, I am looking forward be at my best once again given the chance. But I am happy to have recovered well from the injury that had worried me a lot,” Kipkirui told the club's media.

Earlier in the season, the forward missed three other games against Vihiga Bullets, Karibangi Sharks, and KCB due to injury and sickness, taking the total number of matches that he has missed to seven, featuring in 14 of the 21 that City Stars have played this season.

Beyond his own self, Kipkirui has attributed the current success of the Nicholas Muyoti-coached side to teamwork, adding that their focus for the season is to emerge champions.

“The team has carried themselves well and have done their best and all this is due to teamwork. If we continue like this as a team we are destined for greatness. The season is going on well and our main focus is to be the champions,” he added.

City Stars have lost back-to-back matches for the first time this season, losing to Bidco united and Posta Rangers in a span of four days, and will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways against Vihiga Bullets on Sunday.
