The club confirmed the changes through a statement on their official Facebook page, announcing that the former Kakamega Homeboyz assistant coach takes over the reins following the departure of Charles Bruno in June.

Bruno left Otenga to assume the head coach role at Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA).

In the same announcement, the club revealed that coach Billy Agai, who has been serving in an acting capacity during the transition, will now resume his role as first assistant coach, working alongside Geoffrey Mboya.

The restructuring comes amid a difficult stretch for All Stars, who are enduring a poor run in their fifth season since their relegation from the FKF Premier League in 2020.

Under Agai’s interim tenure, the team collected just two wins, three draws, and seven defeats, with the most recent coming against debutants Kabati Youth over the weekend.

Their struggles have been evident on both ends of the pitch, managing a meagre five goals while conceding 13, leaving them among the league’s lowest scorers and the most fragile defensively.

As a result, the Kisumu-based outfit currently sits second from bottom in the 20-team standings, firmly trapped in the relegation zone and urgently in need of direction.

Coach Otieno arrives with a strong coaching pedigree and a wealth of experience across Kenyan football.

He holds a UEFA C Diploma Licence, a CAF B Licence, and is certified as both an FKF and KNVB Coaching Instructor.

His coaching journey has seen him serve as an assistant coach at Western Stima, Ushuru, FC Talanta, and Kakamega Homeboyz.

The club’s announcement expressed optimism about his impact.

"Kisumu All Stars is thrilled to announce the appointment of Coach Duncan Otieno Omondi as our new Head Coach… With over 26 years of experience in football and sports management, Coach Duncan brings a wealth of expertise to the Otenga family.”

Otieno is also the founder of Atletico Stars Youth Soccer Academy (ASYSA) and holds a Diploma in Sports Management from the Kenya Institute of Sports Education.

The club cited his passion for youth development, talent identification, and behaviour change communication among young players as key strengths.

They further highlighted his coaching philosophy, built on the Four Ds: Discipline, Dedication, Determination, and Development, principles they believe align seamlessly with their ambitions for revival.

Kisumu All Stars will now pin their hopes on Otieno’s experience to help the team steady its season.

With relegation fears mounting, his mandate is clear to inspire a turnaround, restore belief, and lift Otenga out of the danger zone and back towards a competitive footing.
