K’Ogalo get timely boost as midfielder resumes full training

Just days away from their crucial away first leg CAF Confederation Cup tie, record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia have received a timely shot in the arm after midfielder Sydney Wahongo Ochieng' has been passed fully fit and integrated back into the playing unit.

Since the tail end of September, Wahongo has not been able to make any league appearance for K’Ogalo who have had a blistering start to the now temporarily suspended 2021/2022 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL).

With only nine days left as the team is set to face Congo’s Otoho d’Oyo on Sunday 28 November in the playoff first leg, head coach Mark Harrison was sweating on the availability of the former Tusker and Western Stima man as Gor cannot field any of the new signings they made at the start of the season because of failure to register them on time, a situation that would have left him with only sixteen players at his disposal.

Those fears have now been allayed as Harrison confirmed that indeed Wahongo has fully recovered and even took part in friendly matches that Gor have been using to prepare for their continental fixture.

“Sydney is back in training and he even played in one of the friendlies we played on Wednesday and he played very well. Touch wood we have no more injury concerns and I am just looking forward to the game in Congo,” the head coach told Mozzart Sport.

Over the weekend, K’Ogalo are set to travel to Kisumu where they are lined up to take part in two friendly matches that will act as final preparations before they jet out to Congo in search of a favourable result in the first leg.

“We are set to travel to Kisumu on Saturday for two friendly matches against Shabana FC ( on Saturday) and Kisumu All Stars ( on Sunday) at Moi Stadium,” the club posted.

Slightly over Ksh 4 Million raised in Gor Mahia Harambee

K’Ogalo are just two games away from making it to the group stage and will be hoping to make a return to the group stages of the competition after two seasons in the cold. They also remain the only Kenyan club to have made it to the Group Stages of the continental tourney.
