League Nations' holders are saying farewell to the crown, with a fear of the worst

France need an away win at Denmark to avoid relegation from the top division

A year ago, France won the UEFA Nations League, adding that continental silverware to their FIFA World Cup title.

Less than two months before they kickstart their defending-title mission in Qatar, Les Bleus have to say goodbye to the Nations League trophy. A 'group of death', which saw them fight the WC runners-up Croatia, Denmark and Austria, proved to be a too big challenge for Didier Deschamps' slot.

They are currently in third place, just a point afloat of the basement, and possible relegation to the Nations League second tier. Tonight's visit to Denmark could, therefore, be much of a do-or-die for Kylian Mbappe and companions because if they lose and Austria shock Croats, France will face a drop down.

On the other hand, Christian Eriksen's team dares to dream big - in case of a win against the favourites, and eventual Croatia's flop, they'll reach the final stage (final four, to be precise).

Of course, previous sentences show Luka Modric and his Croatia are the ones closest to (another) major success, and the final standings in this group will depend on their ultimate game. They are facing Ralf Rangnick's Austria, who battered them 3-0 in Osijek in the opening match of the group. However, things have changed significantly in the meantime, so there's no surprise if they manage to pay back the old dues.
