OSC Lille tactician Paulo Fonseca was robbed in his hotel room, with an estimated €200,000 worth of jewellery stolen, La Voix du Nord reports on Sunday.
According to them, the burglary occurred on 8 August in a hotel in the centre of Lille.
The thief was identified from CCTV footage and was given a 30-month prison sentence, six of which were suspended.
"I found the bag on a cleaning trolley. In the hallway, I took it," defended the accused, who has been in custody for a month. "There or in the room, it's still a theft," retorted the judge.
Paulo Fonseca is in his first season with Lille, and has won three games, lost three, and drawn one in his first seven matches of Ligue 1.
