Liverpool busier than ever this summer – a new name emerges as a backup option for Alexander Isak: Bradley Barcola

Only exclusive and only expensive! That’s how Liverpool thinks and operates this summer. While waiting for Newcastle to sign a new striker so they can send a new, improved offer for Alexander Isak, the Anfield club has decided to “kill time” by preparing another multi-million move — no less than for Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain!

According to an exclusive report from French outlet L’Equipe, Rodrygo isn't the only player the Reds have been pursuing in recent days. In fact, their attention has been more heavily focused on PSG’s winger, and this could very well be linked to a recent development — that Mohamed Salah has reportedly made up his mind to leave for Saudi Arabia next summer.

Allegedly, the Egyptian has made a firm decision and informed the club well in advance, giving them a full year to find a replacement. If true, this would mean that the move for Barcola is not dependent on the outcome of the Isak situation, but rather that Liverpool is acting early to find a successor to one of their biggest stars.

According to L’Equipe, the prestigious English club has been monitoring the French international for a while now. They’ve sent scouts multiple times and assessed the 22-year-old winger, deciding after the Club World Cup that the time is right to act. The reason? Barcola’s dissatisfaction with his playing time at the tournament in the United States, where he started just twice.

Bradley Barcola has fallen to fourth in the pecking order among PSG’s attacking players in recent months, behind Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Desire Doue. There was an intention to extend his contract, but no concrete talks have taken place,” reports the French newspaper.

While Liverpool was preparing the ground, Desire Doue was gradually taking over Barcola’s minutes — until he imposed himself to the point where Luis Enrique now consistently picks him ahead of the youngster from Villeurbanne.

This has reportedly led Barcola, through his representatives, to let people on Merseyside know he’s open to a transfer...

As for the financial side, the same source states: “For a club like Paris Saint-Germain — not a typical selling club and under no pressure to sell (Barcola is under contract until 2028) — money is not a priority, which makes it unlikely that a deal would be struck for less than 100 million. Especially considering the interest is coming from one of the main contenders for the next Champions League trophy.

As a reminder, Bradley Barcola joined PSG from Lyon in August 2023 for 45 million.
