Hojlud made sure he was as cheeky as Luiz when he was leaving the pitch
Looking at the Premier League table and the form they are in, it’s not surprise to name Aston Villa as the “Newcastle of 2024’. Unai Emery men started the season perfectly and even were the second at one point, but now, just like Newcastle in 2023, are in a result crisis. And Manchester United used it and turned a potential loss into a perfect win and three more points. If the Red Devils were defeated, they would have all but lost their chances of grabbing that last Champions League spot, but now, United closed the gap between them and Villa to just five points. Tottenham are also there, as they are currently six points ahead in fourth.

"I just wanted to get in their nerves a little bit. It wasn't that deep. It didn't quite end well though. Don't think I'll be doing it against them ever again."

In an exciting game, Manchester took the lead via Hojlund before Douglas Luiz equalized and then did this weird celebration in front of Varane. Even Rio Fernandez mocked him on social media afterwards, and there were questions after the match is his actions provoked players to push for the victory, which eventually came by McTominay in the 86th minute.
“I don’t have an opinion about that. I haven’t spoken to the players. Maybe it's fuelising, I don't know. I don’t think it is important. It is about us, we have to think about our game and not the opposition. The way we did it, I liked it. I especially liked the first 20 minutes when we controlled the game. But once we scored we changed our mind-set. For me, you must play on. It was too much like a tennis match, we had problems in the counter-attack. It was so open and it could go two ways but we found the mentality and character to win the game” said coach Erik ten Hag after the game.
Douglas Luiz was once again in the middle of the non-football matters near the end of the game. Hojlud was departing the field in injury time and he wanted to ran the clock down and annoy the home fans a bit. So, he took his time coming off, and made a cheeky gesture to the Villa Park faithful by reminding them of the score and signaling that they should simmer down. Clearly unhappy with both the gesture, and the clock running down as he meandered off the field of the play, Luiz ran over to him and grabbed his shirt before ushering the forward off. But nothing worked out for the Brazilian last night, as his team were defeated at home for the third time in short period of time, bringing the pressure to the Villa locker room.
