The Italian coach made an interesting statement ahead of the final five matches awaiting his team — games that will decide whether Spurs drop into the Championship
Roberto De Zerbi has made a bold statement about his Tottenham side, insisting they are capable of winning all five of their remaining Premier League matches in order to avoid what would be a historic relegation. The north London club’s situation worsened again on Saturday, when a stoppage-time equaliser from Georginio Rutter denied De Zerbi what would have been his first win in charge.
Spurs looked set for a crucial victory after Xavi Simons produced a brilliant strike to put them back in front, following earlier goals from Pedro Porro and Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma. Instead, the late concession means the team are still without a league win in the 2026 calendar year.
Although De Zerbi has already begun to reshape Spurs’ style into something more progressive and attacking, the challenge of keeping them in the Premier League is now enormous. Still, the Italian coach refuses to be intimidated by either the pressure or the schedule ahead.
"We have another five games - it's tough, every one of us knows it's a tough moment, it's a difficult situation - but we have another five games, 15 points, and this team is able to win five games in a row," De Zerbi told reporters. "Now it's difficult to hear my words, but if you watch the players, if you analyse the level of the players, I think we can win five games in a row. Not to be arrogant, because I'm not arrogant, especially now, but we have enough qualities to fight and to win games in a row."

The draw, which ex-Spurs defender Michael Dawson described as feeling “like a defeat,” leaves Tottenham just a single point above the relegation zone with five matches remaining.
Even so, the former Brighton manager insists a perfect finish is still possible. “I always believe in the qualities of the players. They played a good game. I think we can play better than today, with more quality, more calm, especially when we are in ball possession, but in this moment we need this spirit, this attitude, this mentality, and it's not finished yet,” he said.
Next up for Spurs is a trip to bottom-placed Wolves at Molineux — a fixture that now carries enormous weight in their survival battle. De Zerbi has already made his stance clear, demanding full focus in the build-up and warning that there will be no tolerance for negativity.
"I'm proud for their performance - they have to be stronger and to be focused just on the Wolverhampton game, and to come to the training ground on Monday afternoon with a smile, because otherwise they go home immediately. I have no time to see the negative people, to see the sad players or sad assistants," he concluded.
